A New World of Virtual Reality

In the middle of Thursday afternoon Gavin Sauder, the Garden Spot Village Social Media & Web Designer went on the hunt for Scott Miller to review some exciting news. Gavin caught Scott behind the Resident Services Desk as he was on his way back to his office.


Excited and smiling like the Cheshire Cat Gavin exclaimed, “I’ve got something to tell you that you are really going to like.” It was obvious to anyone in the area that something extraordinary was on his mind. That particular statement usually meant Gavin had either discovered or done something very cool with the website, a video or some other aspect of technology.


“I just got an e-mail from google that our online virtual tours have been Virtual Reality(VR) enabled.


“Seriously?” full of exuberance, Scott responded. Gavin called up the Garden Spot Village website on his phone, navigated to the virtual tours and pointed out the VR icon. Together they retrieved the Google Cardboard virtual reality glasses that had been purchased shortly after Google announced the introduction of Google Cardboard VR in 2014.


When you press the VR Icon on one of the Garden Spot Village virtual tours and position the phone in a Google Cardboard viewer you can experience Garden Spot Village in 3D anywhere in the world. Is that cool or what? There are several virtual tours on the Garden Spot Village website and you can jump from location to location by simply moving the glasses focusing on one of the location bubbles. It is pretty amazing!


Gavin was Google certified to produce virtual tours in early 2016. Since then he has enabled the Garden Spot Village website with a number of virtual tours. All those tours can now be experienced in 3D Virtual Reality provided you have a Google Cardboard or comparable VR viewer. Visit the Garden Spot Village Virtual Tour here.
