October 2016 | Endeavor: Highlighting the Happenings at Garden Spot Village

Written by Scott Miller

Hello and Welcome to Endeavour - Highlighting the Happenings of Garden Spot Village.

I’m standing in a small secluded Garden along one of the walking paths. This garden was the project of an Eagle Scout several years ago and it’s another one of the simply beautiful spaces on campus. They are tucked in, here and there, all over the place.

October is upon us and it’s harvest season in Lancaster County.  If you like to visit this is one of the best times to do it. The country side is beautiful in the Fall. You can see Amish mule teams in the fields;  fresh pumpkin pies are coming out of the ovens and you can find all kinds of other wonderful seasonal delights. Not to mention all the country auctions where you can interact with the local culture.

Speaking of country auctions. You don’t want to miss our Fall Festival and silent auction this year. Mark your calendar for October 8th. The festivities start with an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at 7:00 in the morning. The hot air balloon will be here, there is an Apple Pie contest, Chicken BBQ, all kinds of kids activities and the train room will be open.  Visit gsvfallfestival.org for all the details.

There is a great relationship between local officials and Garden Spot Village. New Holland police chief Bowers will be here for a talk entitled Keeping our Town Safe: Small Town Police Departments Past, Present and Future. It’s at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel on October 6th and as with many of our events you are invited.

People are already getting ready for our international mission trips to the Dominican Republic in February and Honduras in July of next year. You are invited to sign up and participate. People find these trips extremely personally rewarding. They are wonderful opportunities to travel, see other parts of the world and make a difference in the lives of others. I’ve been to Honduras and it was amazing. I highly recommend you consider it.

As I mentioned in the beginning . . . this is a wonderful time of year to visit. And ya know . . . we have a hospitality suite for Future Residents. Your first overnight visit is on-the-house with breakfast and dinner included. People find it to be an outstanding experience. Call our main telephone number to make a reservation.

You can find all the dates and times of a wide variety of other  opportunities in the October issue of the Garden Variety which we just posted on our website. Be sure to check it out!

This has been Endeavor – Highlighting the Happenings of Garden Spot Village.

I’m Scott Miller and I hope to see you around campus.

As I always say  . . . Life is Good!
