“Loneliness” to be Topic at Living With Loss Support Group Meeting

NEW HOLLAND, Pa. —Apr. 22, 2009 — The pain of loss can be easier to bear if it’s shared. Chet Yoder, director of pastoral care at Garden Spot Village, will talk about dealing with loneliness at the Living with Loss support group when it meets on Wed., May 6, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Village Square Board Room at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland. The program is free and open to the public.
“The Living with Loss Group is one of the many programs we have in place as part of our spiritual ministry to our residents and to our neighbors in the surrounding community,” said Karen Horning, director of social services at Garden Spot Village. “These groups give participants an opportunity to learn from each other, find support, get new information and enhance their life skills.”
Other support groups on campus that are open to the public include Parents with Special Cares, for individuals who have adult children or grandchildren with mental, emotional or physical health challenges; CanSurmount for cancer patients and their families and friends; and My Fellow Traveler, for individuals in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. Garden Spot Village also hosts an Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver’s Support Group for those who care for individuals with significant memory loss; a Low Vision support group and a Parkinson’s support group. The public is free to participate in any of these groups.
