The popular annual fundraiser brings a breath of spring to the newly renovated Village Square Indoor Park—and supports a worthy cause.
NEW HOLLAND, Pa. —Jan. 14, 2015 — A chapel, a mill with a waterwheel and tugboat cleverly christened the “Tow-hee” are just a few of the dozens of hand-crafted birdhouses and bird-themed quilted items that will be up for bid in the seventh annual Birdhouse Show and Silent Auction, which takes place at Garden Spot Village from Sunday, Feb. 1 through Saturday, Feb. 28.
"Thanks to the generosity and talents of our many woodworkers and quilters, we are blessed to be able to offer these one-of-a-kind collectibles," said Linda Dodge, director of development for Garden Spot Village. "We invite the public to come see them on display in our newly renovated Village Square Indoor Park. You can reall get the feeling that you are enjoying these birdhouses in a lovely outdoor garden."
Visitors this year will be able to get a sneak preview of a unique A-frame birdhouse that will be among the door prizes that Garden Spot Village will offer to participants in the Lancaster Best Kept Secrets Tour in April.
Members of the Garden Spot Village Wood Shop started the event in 2009 to raise money for the Benevolent Fund, which helps support residents who need financial assistance. In recent years, quilters have also contributed items for the fundraiser.
The Village Square Indoor Park is open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The public is welcome to bid on any of the items in the silent auction, which will close at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb 28.
The display is free and open to the public. Visitors should call before arriving to ensure that the Village Square Indoor Park is not closed for a special event.
Auction high bidders will be notified by phone. The birdhouses can be picked up the week following the auction from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Village Square Reception Desk.
Garden Spot Village is located at 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland. The public is encouraged to call before visiting to make sure that the Village Square Indoor Park is open. For more information, call 717-355-6000.
