July 11, 2011

"Reflections" display to open to the public on July 18-19.

NEW HOLLAND, Pa. —July 11, 2011 — A multimedia display of memorabilia from the community archives will commemorate the 15th anniversary of Garden Spot Village.

Three stations will display slide shows and videos of early construction, the Grand Opening celebration and highlights of life at the community over the years. An interactive photo exhibit will encourage visitors to see how many residents or staff members they recognize or remember. Another group of photographs will focus on special features of the community’s New Holland campus, such as the Picnic Pavilion and the Legacy Garden, as well as the Maple Farm skilled nursing facility in Akron.

Another display will encourage visitors to take advantage of the equipment in the community’s archive room to record their life story. The archive room features a sound-proof recording booth and professional-quality recording equipment. Recordings can be transferred to a CD.

Table-top displays will feature photo albums and books of newspaper clippings featuring Garden Spot Village, a book listing residents who are military veterans, a book of the many retired nurses living at Garden Spot Village, and other items of interest.
The public is invited to visit the “Reflections” display in the Village Square Park at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland. The display is open to visitors on Mon., July 18, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and from 3:15 p.m. until 5 p.m., and on Tues., July 19, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. For information, call 717-355-6000.
