Businesses Show Strong Support for Garden Spot Village Marathon

Event helps fund benevolent care at New Holland retirement community

NEW HOLLAND, Pa. — Apr. 5, 2010 — Leading businesses are showing strong support for the second annual Garden Spot Village Marathon, which will be held on Sat., Apr. 10, 2010, starting 8 a.m., beginning and ending at the Garden Spot Village retirement community at 433 S. Kinzer Ave.

Comcast and Warfel Construction Company are the event’s presenting sponsors, and Blue Ridge Communications/Cable 11 is the media sponsor.

New Holland Auto Group is sponsoring one of the water stations along the 26.2-mile, USA Track & Field-certified, Boston Marathon qualifier course. Mile marker sponsors are Graystone Bank, Highmark and United Concordia Dental.

Kegel’s Produce, Landis Foods, Pioneer, Singer, Triangle Communications and Turkey Hill all have made in-kind donations.

MetLife Home Loans, Rochester Midland and Stauffers Drug Store all are Marathon Friends.

Some 1,000 participants from throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Virginia and beyond are registered to participate in the event, which is open to runners, walkers and four-person relay teams. This year, Garden Spot Village added a half marathon for participants who prefer a shorter course, and is also adding a food court for participants and spectators. A variety of foods will be available for purchase.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund, which helps support residents who need financial assistance. In the current fiscal year, Garden Spot Village will provide approximately $1.3 million in benevolent care.
