Garden Spot Village Invites Pastors to Breakfast Program
Speakers will discuss "Engaging Seniors in Ministry"
NEW HOLLAND, Pa. — July 7, 2009 — Garden Spot Village is hosting a complimentary breakfast program on “Engaging Seniors in Ministry” for pastors and those in pastoral support roles who interact and deal with seniors. The seminar will be held on Wed., Sept. 9, 2009, from 7:45 a.m. until 10 a.m. in the chapel at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave.
“There is a wealth of experience, skills, time, talent and ability among those in their second half of life. With the right opportunities, seniors will get more involved with more energy and vitality than younger working family members,” said Chet Yoder, director of pastoral care at the retirement community. “Garden Spot Village residents provide us with a wealth of wisdom that we want to share with pastors so that local churches are better equipped to minister to their elders and to help seniors find purpose and meaning through ministry.”
As part of the program, Steve Lindsey, Garden Spot Village CEO, will discuss ways to actively encourage senior members to be a vital part of their congregations. Karen Horning, director of social services, will talk about what pastors should know about the needs of their elders. Attendees will receive a complimentary copy of Living With Purpose in a Worn-out Body by Missy Buchanan.
“A number of our residents who are undergoing significant health changes have appreciated the book,” said Yoder. “It’s devotional in nature but captures the experiences of those who are becoming frail of body.”
Seating is limited and reservations are required. For more information or to make reservations, call 717-355-6500 or e-mail cyoder@gardenspotvillage.org.
