NEW HOLLAND, Pa. —Sept. 21, 2009 — Congressman Joseph R. Pitts (R-PA) today donated a signed art print to the Garden Spot Village Annual Fall Festival & Benefit Auction. The print depicts the Capitol dome framed by trees.
Pitts made the donation while at Garden Spot Village to talk about his artwork, which is on display in the retirement community’s Main Street Art Gallery for the month of September. The exhibit includes oil paintings of historic figures, landmarks and landscapes, many of which were inspired by the congressman’s political service, as well as by scenes from throughout his district and from his travels. The exhibit also includes pencil sketches, watercolors, woodcraft and sculptures in clay and bronze. The gallery is open daily from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. It is accessible through the Village Square North entrance.
The Fall Festival & Benefit Auction is scheduled for Sat., Oct. 10, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Activities will include a craft fair with a variety of creative wares for sale, an art exhibit focused on architectural themes, and both live and silent auctions. Hayrides, facepainting and other activities will be available for children, and the community’s model train room will be open to visitors. Festival-goers can also enjoy favorite foods, including chicken corn soup and chili, chicken barbecue, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches and apple dumplings.
Proceeds from the annual event benefit the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund, which helps support residents who need financial assistance. In 2008, Garden Spot Village paid $1.2 million in uncompensated benevolent care.
