Vern and Sally Mittelstadt energetically embrace life. As new residents, they chose to move to Garden Spot Village while still young and healthy enough to enjoy all the amenities. The two admit their active lifestyle didn’t change much with Vern still teaching Bible studies and Sally continuing to pursue her passion for cooking. The enthusiastic couple wasted no time getting involved in their new community through volunteer, social and educational opportunities. They are volunteers for Caring Connections and members of a Christian Fellowship Group, Computer Lab and COSWest. Both are fitness fanatics who work out in the Fitness Center.

Frank Kuserk likes to blow his own horn. That is, when he’s performing with the Garden Spot Village Band, or serenading Trudi, his wife. Frank met Trudi in 1997 at an Elderhostel and became a frequent visitor to Trudi’s home at Garden Spot Village. After a storybook romance, the couple married and made their home at the village. As a talented musician, he serves as director of the Garden Spot Village Band. He’s also the president of the Farmer’s Club, tutor in the computer lab and tax preparer for residents.

Harry and Mary Alice Black enjoy going on vacation. But since moving to Garden Spot Village two years ago, the couple admits that the resort-style living is like being on vacation all-year long. Both can be seen swimming laps in the pool, working out in the Wellness Center or walking the outdoor paths. Harry likes to use his creativity in the train room or wood shop. Mary Alice learned a new avocation volunteering in the Garden Spot Village post office. On any given morning you might hear Harry’s rendition of “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning” resonate in the Village Square.
