Studies show that volunteers live healthier, more engaged and purposeful lives. Volunteers at Garden Spot Village find that to be true! Garden Spot Village residents experience and build community through on-campus and off-campus volunteer opportunities.

On-Campus

How do you build community? By serving together. More than 500 residents and community members volunteer regularly on campus. In total, these volunteers log nearly 60,000 hours every year. Volunteer opportunities including sorting and delivering mail, serving customers at Linden and Share & Care Thrift Store, running the audio-visual equipment during events in the Chapel and giving tours to prospective residents.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

February through April, a team of residents provide income tax preparation through the federal Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Each year the team completes more than 250 tax returns for members of the greater community who qualify for the service.

Swipe Out Hunger

On the fourth Monday evening of each month, Garden Spot team members and residents serve a community meal at CrossNet Youth Ministries. Funded with donations from Garden Spot team members and residents, the event offers an opportunity to build community and relationships over food. In addition, each month a group of residents serve lunch at Water Street Ministries in Lancaster.

Off-Campus

Residents engage in volunteer opportunities beyond Garden Spot Village as well. Opportunities to volunteer with CrossNet Ministries, ELANCO School District, Release Time, Water Street Mission and other local non-profits offer a natural connection to the local community as well as purposeful reasons to engage with others.

Good Works

Residents with experience in light carpentry and home repair appreciate the opportunity to volunteer with Good Works, a non-profit organization which currently serves low-income homeowners throughout central and northern Chester County. Residents volunteer for one day workdays several times a year.
