Retirement Community Events 

A variety of interesting and engaging events are always happening at Garden Spot Village. Some are exclusively for residents so you have to live here to experience those, however, all of the events listed below are open to the public. Garden Spot Village strives to be a good neighbor by welcoming people of all ages and graciously extending hospitality. We invite you to join in all the wonderful things that are happening here.

Our campus is open, inviting and welcoming to everyone! Please visit and participate in the excitement as often as you'd like.

The Garden Variety, a monthly publication, is available online here! Events listed in the Garden Variety typically include "Resident Only" or "Future Resident" events, but it also serves as a window into our community.

Summer Arts in the Park

6:00pm - 9:00pm / New Holland Community Park

Garden Spot Village is honored to partner with the New Holland Summer Arts Association to sponsor the 2022 Entertainment in the Park. Live performances every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday run from 6-9pm and are held, rain or shine. To see a full list of performers, click here

Swipe Out Hunger Community Meal for August

5:30pm - 6:30pm / CrossNet Youth Ministries

Garden Spot Village will partner with CrossNet Ministries to serve a free drive-through community meal at the CrossNet Youth Ministries building on Franklin Street in New Holland. This event is free and open to the public.

The Artisans Corner 1st Friday Pop-Up and Demonstration

10:00am - 12:00pm / Village Square

Please join us as resident artisan Lynne Kokotiuk demonstrates how she paints her decorative items. While you are here, stop by the The Artisans Corner and discover a collection of beautiful, handcrafted art made by Garden Spot Village residents.

INELDA End of Life Doula Training

1:00pm - 6:00pm / Garden Spot Village Chapel

Garden Spot Village is honored to host End-of-Life Doula Training provided by the International End-of-Life Doula Association (INELDA) Thursday through Saturday, September 8-10, 2022 in the Chapel. Dr. Jamie Eaddy Chism, director of program development and Kris Kington-Barker, director of special programs, will teach the course, which includes over 25 hours of in-person instruction and 12 hours of self-study prior to classroom learning. The classes will tentatively run Thursday, 1-6pm and Friday and Saturday, 8:30am-6pm. The cost for the 3-day course is $650. 40 CEUs are available to nurses for an additional $90. The class size will be limited to 70 people. To register, click here.

AARP Smart Driver Course

09:00am - 1:00pm / Garden Towers

Want to learn defensive driving techniques? AARP’s 2-day Smart Driver Course will run Tuesday, September 13 and Thursday, September 15, from 9am-1pm each day. Participants may qualify for auto insurance discounts after completing the course. Cost: $20 per person for AARP members/$25 per person for non-members. To register, 717-355-6000. AARP requires unvaccinated adults to wear a mask.

Book Repurposing Workshop

2:00pm - 4:00pm / Art Studio

Garden Spot Village has partnered with Pennsylvania College of Art & Design to provide workshops for residents and the community. In this two-hour workshop participants will repurpose an old book into an intuitively altered art journal. You only need to bring an un-precious book of your choice, which will provide endless prompts for reflection and discovery. Cost: $40. Register online at: pcad.edu.

Lancaster Balloon Festival

3:00pm - 7:00pm / Bird-in-Hand

AARP Refresher Driver Course

09:00am - 1:00pm / Garden Towers

This one-day refresher course requires that participants have taken the 8-hour basic course or a refresher course in the last three years. $20 for AARP Members/$25 for non-members. Call 717.355.6000 to register. Pay via check, day, of, payable to AARP. This event is open to the public 50+. AARP requires unvaccinted adults to wear a mask.

Train Room Open House

1:30pm - 4:00pm / Garden Spot Village Train Room

The Garden Spot Village Train Room will host an Open House on Saturday, September 24 from 1:30-4pm

This Open House is FREE, open to the public, and will delight visitors of all ages! The newly revised HO- and O-gauge tracks include elevated lines to look like commuter lines! As always, the HO-gauge train layout includes Thomasville and the ever-popular “Talk with Thomas” event. The O-gauge train layout includes features such as waterfalls, a monorail, a Ford dealership showroom and more. Both layouts provide plenty of train action complemented with heavily detailed scenery. Also, for any collectors or builders in our midst, the Train Room will offer excess model train materials for sale including detailed structures, building kits and scenery materials!

No matter if you are a train fanatic yourself, looking for a fun activity to do with your kids/grandkids, or simply enjoy a good time, we encourage you to check out the Garden Spot Village Train Room Open House!

Portrait Drawing Workshop

2:00pm - 4:00pm / Art Studio

Garden Spot Village has partnered with Pennsylvania College of Art & Design to provide workshops for residents and the community. In this two-hour workshop, attendees draw portrains from life, learning techniques for seeing and mapping proportions, basic anatomical references and material handling. Suitable for the beginning and the more experienced artist. Participants can expect to gain confidence and accuracy in likeness and drawing process. Cost: $40. Register online at pcad.edu.

Explore Retirement Living Open House

Garden Spot Village will participate in the Explore Retirement Living Open House. This county-wide event, hosted by 17 continuing care retirement communities, provides an opportunity for prospective residents to explore multiple communities.
