Aeroponic Greenhouse Dedication

Though the weather was rainy and cold, the environment in the Garden Spot Village Aeroponic Greenhouse was warm and inviting the day of its dedication – and not just because the temperature is set at a certain level to promote plant growth.

Guests such as New Holland Mayor Wilbur Horning and State Representative David Zimmerman, and business donors such as Everence and Fulton Bank, were on hand to take part in the dedication ceremony. With a welcome from Linda Dodge, director of development at Garden Spot Village, various speakers talked about the exciting new structure and what it offers both Garden Spot Village and the surrounding community.

“This is the beginning of a great relationship with a wider community,” and a “perfect example of a new and innovative approach to agriculture,” said Deputy Secretary for the Department of Agriculture, Hannah Smith-Brubaker. Building on that sentiment, Garden Spot Village CEO, Steve Lindsey commented that the greenhouse is both “good for our nutrition and good for our community.”

Following each speaker was the official ribbon cutting. The aforementioned guests and speakers, as well as Gary Hutchinson, Vice President of Senior Living at Sodexo, and EJ Rittersbach, GSV resident and Board Member, all gathered for the ribbon cutting.

“I was truly humbled and even emotional when asked to cut the ribbon at the dedication service,” EJ said. “My first view of the greenhouse was when I, as a part of the greenhouse committee, was invited to enjoy a lunch with other committee members in the greenhouse itself. It lent itself to a very peaceful atmosphere and helped me also reflect on the many gifts and talents God bestowed on individuals to design such a wonderful facility.”

Once the ceremonial ribbon was cut, attendees were able to walk through the greenhouse and see the wide variety of produce already growing in the 200 towers throughout the building. While among the plants, everyone was welcome to a sampling of flavorful appetizers such as a rich skewer of cherry tomatoes and fresh mozzarella in balsamic vinegar, and a light hibiscus mousse adorned with a spearmint leaf on a bamboo spoon.

Before leaving, the chatter from guests filled with enthusiasm – for the greenhouse, for the delicious produce within, and for the exciting future it will bring.
