Community Core Value Update

Written by Steve Lindsey

Hi, I'm Steve Lindsey, CEO of Garden Spot Communities. Today I want to give you an update on a change we are making to one of our core values.

Now the core values at Garden Spot Communities are those values which form the foundation upon which we function. Both as an organization and as individuals. We know that there are literally hundreds of values, but some of them are so primary, so important to us that regardless of everything that is changing around us, they are still core to who we are, what we believe, and who we want to be going forward. So we spend a lot of time thinking about them and talking about them. Out of that discussion came a realization that we need to change one of our values.

For 15 years, we’ve talked about the value of teamwork and that is still an important value, but as the board discussed it recently, we believe that the value of Community is actually a higher calling.

As we identify the value of Community it is a recognition that we are hardwired to care, connect, and serve. In construction, it means to be wired in with permanent electrical connections (it’s not something you can unplug and remove). As we talk about our values, we mean that God has created us in a way that builds that need for relationship and community deep within us and we will not be the best version of ourselves unless we are fulfilling that need.

Being on a team is important, but being a part of an authentic community calls us to do more.  Rather than simply work together with a group of others to accomplish a goal, We desire to be a place to belong, and together we will strive to know and be known; to love and be loved; to serve and be served.

So I would invite you to join with us to make sure that Garden Spot Communities is a place where authentic community is at the core of our who we are.
