The Little Things Make A Difference

Written by Scott Miller

A few cars dot the Village Square parking lot. A handful of people are out for a morning walk and employees are arriving for the day. The community begins coming to life. It’s a little after 7:00 in the morning on a Tuesday, and it’s much like any other day at Garden Spot Village.

For Dennis, the day has already started. Kneeling beside the sleek, white Toyota Avalon, he looks up and smiles, nodding a warm “hello”. Next to him on the ground sits a bright red air tank as he patiently checks the air pressure on one of the tires; he’s working on one of the cars that serve employees and residents. Satisfied, he moves the tank and goes to check the next tire.

This morning, it’s tire pressure. Tomorrow he might check the oil; the next day perhaps he’ll vacuum the interiors. There’s a checklist, a routine, and it’s followed day after day, week after week. Dennis tends to the cars on a regular schedule to keep them running smoothly, ready for the needs of the day.

It’s a little thing that makes a big difference. There are about 450 team members like Dennis doing a variety of jobs, and everyone seems to do them with a smile, regardless of their responsibilities. Some do them early in the morning; others late at night. Together, everyone keeps Garden Spot Village running, ready for whatever opportunities the next day will bring.
