Narvon resident wins tickets for two at Explore Retirement Living open house.

NEW HOLLAND, Pa. — Oct. 28, 2011 — Garden Spot Village announces that Margie Rafferty, of Narvon, Pa., is the winner of its drawing for a hot air balloon ride for two. Rafferty’s name was drawn at random from the more than 200 visitors who toured the campus last weekend as part of the first-ever Explore Retirement Living open house.

“I was excited. I really felt very lucky,” Rafferty said about learning she had won the balloon ride.

Five years ago, Rafferty and her husband enjoyed a balloon ride over Lancaster County. Since widowed, she is looking forward to going with one of her sons, Robert Jr., of Lancaster.

Rafferty retired 15 years ago from a job as a corporate comptroller. Today she works part-time as a cashier at Yoder’s. She has been researching her options and thinking about putting her home up for sale. She visited two communities during Saturday’s event, a collaborative effort among 15 Lancaster-area retirement communities.

“Garden Spot Village was laid out very nice and has a lot to offer,” she said.

“We thought of offering a chance to win a balloon ride to give people an idea of the active lifestyle here,” said Scott Miller, director of marketing at Garden Spot Village.

Garden Spot Village features a pool and fitness center, wood shop, train room, craft studio, art studio, gardening plots and other recreational and leisure amenities. In addition, it offers a full range of cultural and educational events, health and fitness programs and more. The community sponsors a hot air balloon flown by the U.S. Hot Air Balloon Team and organizes the annual Garden Spot Village Marathon.
