Enjoy an exceptional evening of musical entertainment when members of the Lancaster Red Rose Chorus, a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, share their vocal talents as part of the Saturday Evening Concert Series.
Lancaster Red Rose Chorus will share their vocal talents as part of the Saturday Evening Concert Series at Garden Spot Village on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m.
“We invite the public to join us to hear this award-winning group of singers perform their barbershop harmonies,” said Colleen Musselman, director of life enrichment at Garden Spot Village.
Barbershop harmony is performed without musical accompaniment. The lead sings the melody, and the tenor, bass and baritone voices harmonize to form chords, which results in a distinctive, full sound that sets barbershop apart from other a cappella styles of singing.
During the hour-long program at Garden Spot Village, 20 to 25 members of the chorus will perform such new and old favorites as “Hello, Mary Lou,” “When I’m 64,” “On the Street Where You Live,” “Get Her to the Church on Time,” “Coney Island Baby” and “Good Night, Sweetheart, Good Night.”
Chartered in 1949, the Lancaster Red Rose Chorus is a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Under the direction of Lori Jo Whitehaus, the Lancaster Red Rose Chorus recently placed third in the Western Division of the Mid-Atlantic District. They have also competed in the district’s competition, finishing 13th out of more than 100 choruses in the Mid-Atlantic District.
Other upcoming concerts in the Saturday Evening Concert Series at Garden Spot Village include the Hooley School of Irish Dance on March 21 and the Lancaster Bible College Chamber Singers on April 18.
All concerts begin at 7 p.m. in the chapel at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland. The concerts are free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted at the door.
