Founded in Faith
Garden Spot Village has evolved into a community that thrives on purpose, opportunity and living life to its fullest. As a result, 22% of the people coming into the community are 50 and 60 Somethings. People say it's because there's a different mindset at Garden Spot Village. While others in our market space talk about seniors and retirement, here we talk about people and opportunity. Our heritage, mission and core values play a fundamental role as they ground us in the present and shape our future.
Garden Spot Village opened in 1996 as a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community that is committed to Christian values and principles. Home to residents of many faiths and backgrounds, we are affiliated with the Lancaster Mennonite Conference of the Mennonite Church; the Atlantic Coast Conference of Mennonite Church USA; Mennonite Health Services; LeadingAge Pa and LeadingAge.
Mission & Values
Mission: We will enrich the lives of older adults as an expression of Christ’s love.
We are hardwired to care, connect, and serve.
We are a place to belong, and together we will strive to know and be known; to love and be loved; to serve and be served.
We strive to do the right thing right.
Excellence in service leads to the delight of our customers and the discovery of our best selves.
We believe that selfless love leads to service.
Through Christ-like love, we recognize the inherent value of each person and serve those around us with compassion and empathy.
We are caregivers, not caretakers.
By fostering growth as individuals and as a community, we embody God’s call to bear fruit from each gift with which He has graciously entrusted us.
Innovation [Steve Lindsey - Video]
We fail forward to cultivate change.
We believe innovation and creativity are integrated into everything we do, and engage these gifts to foster meaningful, progressive, and valuable growth.
We will serve with honor, or not at all.
We recognize that service without integrity is meaningless, and strive to be fair, honest, open, and accountable in every action, no matter how small.
Garden Spot Experience
Because so many people say there is something “different” about Garden Spot Village an initiative was undertaken to understand what that difference might be. Understanding that, “if you don’t know why something’s working when it’s working you won’t know how to fix it when it’s broke,” a cross-organizational team invested a significant amount of time in observation, interviews, surveys and discussion focused on discovering that “difference.” The goal was two-fold 1) ensuring the difference is sustainable and 2) recognizing if things start to drift off course they can be corrected. The difference was discovered to be the culture of the organization. Over time leadership has been investing a significant amount of energy in shaping a youth-preserving, positive, life-giving culture even though they may not have realized it at the time.
