Boehringer’s (pronounced bear-ing-ers) – $
Don’t miss this one—a 50’s style eatery in a quiet shady spot along a lazy creek where kids play in the water and feed the ducks. It’s a summer tradition for more than 70 years that encourages so many families to come back. It’s nothing fancy but simple, delicious, inexpensive food. Family favorites include cheese steak sandwiches ($4.45) hamburger barbecue ($2.75), hot dogs ($1.75) with chili ($2.95) and hot crispy fries ($1.75). But it’s the homemade ice cream that makes this “the place to go” from March to September. A double dip of your choice of 12 flavors is just $3.50. My favorites are black raspberry, chocolate butter fudge, chocolate mint chip and pineapple. Delicious shakes and sundaes are also in demand. Newcomers will quickly learn the procedure as posted, “Step up to order, Step back to wait!” Somehow the 10 college kids jockey for position manning their stations, get your food, remember you, accept your money and place it in only one cash register. There are no seats inside but 12 picnic tables on each side of the drive-in offer ample seating.  Believe me, the antique shoppers coming to Adamstown return to this hidden local gem. The only drawback? It closes around Labor Day and you have to wait until spring. Closed Mondays. Call Today

Lickity Split – $
From Garden Spot Village, Lickity Split is only a short drive or an adventuresome walk to this local restaurant, where you will be welcomed by friendly staff and delightful atmosphere.  Lickity Split,a cafe located in the Old Kauffman’s Hardware building, is owned by Mitch and Gina Dissinger. The decor is a history of the town and local area, with wonderful decorations, games and favorite menu items for the kids, etc. Choose from the Chicken Noodle Soup, a daily favorite, along with other specialties like Creamy Mushroom Bacon Gouda and Dill Pickle Soup. Some of my favorite menu items are the Rubinson, a wrap filled with chicken salad, cranberries and other goodies, and the Orchard salad with greens, cranberries, oranges, fresh apple slices and almonds. Delicious! Menu offerings include appetizers, soups/wraps, sandwiches, salads, and shakes/sundaes. The hearty Stuffed Pretzel Melt with ham is a gentlemen’s delight. The Leiby’s ice cream bar has numerous flavors like Nittany Paws and awesome desserts like Cookie Bottom Sundae, which you can eat there or take out. In August 2014 the café was featured in USA TODAY as one of “10 Best Stone-Cold Ice Cream Shops” in the country. They also have two ice cream trucks and that provide catering services. Also known as the “Town Scoop,” the food is similar to any typical cafe, and is a favorite for the residents and tourists who want something other than Amish fare. Ciro’s Italian Bistro* – $$
A lovely drive across Landis Valley Road to Richmond Square on Fruitville Pike, will take you to Ciro’s. Tony Ciro, owner of this upscale casual dining restaurant, welcomes newcomers and is open to giving recommendations for his favorite entress. After trying the Linguine di Vongole (Pasta with Clams (ask for it Tony style)… it has become my favorite too! Choose your style of pasta with red or white sauce… I like angel hair pasta with a delicious white wine sauce flavored by a bit of red pepper flakes and covered with a generous amount of fresh clams. A lovely waitress brought artisan herb bread with olive oil or butter. I look forward to trying fire roasted pizzas, salads and other classic Italian dishes – lasagna, chicken Marsala and veal parmigiana during future visits. Save room for dessert! Mamma Ciro makes delicious desserts or you can choose from the gelato case filled with different flavors that you can “taste” before you choose. My favorite is a combination of peanut butter and coffee mocha while my friend enjoyed cookies n cream…. each flavor was fabulous! Service was the best, next to the delicious food. Indoor and outdoor seating is available or you can reserve the small private dining room. Reservations recommended. Open daily. Call Today

Hong Kong Garden – $$
My family and I have dined at this Chinese Restaurant for over 20 years and I rate it number 1 in the area. Located in the Wheatland Shopping Center, the restaurant always has plenty of free parking. Food is served in huge portions… ideal for sharing or taking extra home. After ordering, our server, Say, always brings a complimentary bowl of freshly made crispy fried egg noodle chips with duck sauce, mustard and hot tea. They are excellent, followed by a bowl of Wonton or Hot and Sour Soup. We always order the egg roll extra crispy as it coats the pork and shrimp combination just perfectly. A favorite Chef Specialty is Heaven and Earth made with chicken, pork, shrimp, vegetables and pineapples. Assorted lunch specials and combos include fried rice and soup. The large, extensive menu offers multiple choices of beef, poultry, seafood, pork and vegetarian entrees and presents a challenge in choosing your meal. Closed Mondays. Call Today

Kling House – $$
The Kling House, part of Kitchen Kettle Village, was owned by the three generations of Klings and Burnleys before the farmhouse became a restaurant. The lovely home includes multiple vintage decor rooms. The restaurant also includes an outdoor dining area. Weather permitting, this is an ideal area to dine and watch horses and buggies pass by. The breakfast and lunch menu varies and includes favorites like Cinnamon Raisin French toast and Crème Brulee French Toast. Our server was friendly and surprised us with a complimentary crock of homemade cream cheese spread. My favorite lunch entrée was the open faced Cranberry Chicken Salad with mounds of chicken salad topped with cranberry orange marmalade, while my friend raved about the hearty Lancaster County Reuben Sandwich. Tasty soups and homemade crab cakes were also available as well as their signature desserts–coconut cream and shoofly pies. Don’t forget to visit their gift shop, where you can find the cranberry orange marmalade and other specialties. During the holiday season, they offer special dinners with Mrs. Claus and Yummie, the Kitchen Kettle Village mascot. Open Monday-Saturday for breakfast and lunch; closed Sundays. Call Today

La Borimex Mexican Restaurant – $$
Gather several friends and take a 15 minute drive to an authentic Mexican Restaurant with an outstanding menu. It was the perfect place for six GSV residents to have fun, enjoy camaraderie and share stories of Mexican places we visited. We started with Pico de Gallo, salsa and chips to share…..all fresh and good. Several of us tried the hearty tortilla soup with floating avocado slices and chips. One friend ordered the Chiles Rellenos, Poblano Peppers filled with beef platter; another had the tasty Fajita Borimex (shrimp, chicken and steak with beans and rice). Another ordered a combo platter with chicken quesadillas and burritos. I chose the Chorizo sausage/steak tacos with rice and beans which had a bit of bite to it, but was outstanding. My friends encouraged me to order the Horchata, a cinnamon rice milk beverage that quickly put out the fire from the sausage and complimented my dinner very nicely. Portions were fresh, large, authentic, reasonably priced and top quality. Chef Lito joined us at the table and answered questions. I remember going there when they sold groceries and he says, “We were just a tiny Mexican grocery store, selling rice, beans, peppers, spices, tortillas, sugar and other staples, along with cowboy boots and hats.” As demand increased for more tables, groceries were eliminated. Outdoor seating is also available, weather permitting. Closed Mondays. BYOB Call Today

Belvedere Inn* – $$$
The Belvedere Inn is located in a Victorian Italianate mansion in downtown Lancaster, which was built around 1876 by John Rhor, a tobacco dealer from Strasburg, as a place to dine and entertain guests. Belvedere means, “Beautiful view” and the restaurant has elegant first floor dining rooms as well as indoor and outdoor venues on the second floor. Restaurant Week is an ideal time to explore The Belvedere Inn for lunch or dinner and enjoy fabulous food at a reduced price. Deciding on an appetizer, entrée and dessert for the $20 lunch and $30 for dinner was difficult and all seemed a unique opportunity for a tasty meal. Choosing the deviled eggs with tarragon infused yolks and mornay sauce appetizer, which was elegantly garnished, was certainly the right choice – as it was outstanding. My main course was Smoked Salmon Penne in a pesto cream sauce and was presented with a sculptured smoked salmon rose in the center of the plate. The Quiche Lorraine with salad and fresh fruit was also a favorite. Dessert choices included chocolate mousse and crème brulee. Open for lunch and dinner daily. Call Today
