Resident Advocacy

What is Resident Advocacy?

A team of Social Workers are on staff to serve the residents of Garden Spot Village with the purpose of enriching lives and cultivating a culture that maximizes independence.

Personal Growth

  • Resources to new residents and assist with orientation to the community lifestyle.
  • Help identify strengths and techniques for enhancing quantity and quality of life.
  • Individual support in times of adjustment, changes, losses, relational problems, coping with new diagnoses and issues associated with aging.
  • Support residents and families in times of illness and loss.

Advocacy Services

  • Resources regarding Medicare, Medicaid, home health & hospice agencies, pharmaceutical assistance, resident rights, advance directives, policies & procedures, transportation services, community, governmental and educational benefits.
  • Manage the campus medical equipment loan program.
  • Assistance with insurance-related questions, problems and Medicare part D selection.
  • Referrals and help initiating services such as At Home caregivers and DayBreak services.
  • Assistance at the time of transfers to Personal Care or Skilled Nursing.
  • Coordinate the voluntary Check-In service.

Interpersonal Relationships

  • Family support and liaison that facilitates family conferences and communication.
  • Assistance in problem-solving and conflict resolutions.
  • Crisis interventions with residents and their families.
