Active Living

An Active Adult Community

For Garden Spot Village residents, retirement means an opportunity to invest in hobbies and volunteer efforts they previously might not have had time for.

Forget any retirement stereotypes you may have – residents at Garden Spot Village are actively living and enjoying every minute of it. Just visit our blog or pick up a copy of Destination Garden Spot Village on your next visit and you’ll see numerous examples people living an active lifestyle in retirement.

Volunteering, Athletics, and Working

Many residents volunteer at Garden Spot Village in the library, at the annual Garden Spot Village 1/2 Marathon & 10K, in Share & Care, at Linden and more. Others are involved in the local community in politics, they volunteer in the local schools, for local non-profits or serve at the church and in missions. Still more have reached out globally to impact the lives of those in Africa, Asia and South America through entrepreneurship and outreach.

Residents have the opportunity to pursue their interests in ministry, gardening, woodworking, model trains, quilting and more. If Garden Spot Village doesn’t have a certain program available – residents take the initiative to start it. They have met needs for a better election process, a metal shop, and formed a team to build a home in Honduras.

Record Volunteer Hours

An active retirement community wouldn’t be complete without a state-of-the-art Wellness Center. Personal trainers can help you achieve your training goals. Want to run a half marathon? Ride in a bike race? Swim competitively? No problem. We will help you succeed!

Our community embraces an active lifestyle, hosting a half marathon that welcomes nearly a thousand runners each March. In addition, the aquatics program, 5K runs, Tai Chi, yoga and exercise classes are also popular among residents.

Although many residents of Garden Spot Village are retired from their careers, some have taken the opportunity to start new ones! Some have started non-profits, used their expertise to consult with local businesses or use their hobbies – like flying – to serve others. Since Garden Spot Village takes care of many daily chores, residents have a chance to use their free time for work projects and start-ups.

Live Your Own Story

Your story is unique. It’s unlike any other. You’ve crafted it through a lifetime of distinctive experiences. Your best pages most likely reflect those moments you created with intention:  your educational and career path, starting a life with your spouse, raising a family, celebrating holidays and taking vacations, spending time with family and friends. The experiences that tend to have the greatest long-lasting value and be the most memorable often include others with whom we are in relationship or involve those pursuits we find interesting and meaningful.

Come discover a community of people who are writing the next page of their own story. You’ll see it happening all around you as soon as you drive onto campus. Walk into Village Square and you’ll feel the energy. You’ll experience engagement, because everyone’s personal story is intermingling with the stories of others to create something extraordinarily special. This is a community that values you, your unique contributions, your purpose in life and your own ongoing story.

See how many people are making a difference in our community as well as around the world through our Game On initiative.
