About the Book:

Urban founded his architectural firm one hundred forty years ago in Lancaster City, and he designed every notable building during that time between 1885 and 1935, yet no book has been written about him or the impact he had. This book explores the progression and maturity of Urban’s work through seventeen different design styles and eleven different building styles, gathered over 7 years of research.

Photographs and stories that highlight the people behind Urban’s commissions make Urban Legend: The Life and Legacy of C. Emlen Urban an unforgettable look at the man who introduced Lancaster City to worldly sophistication after transforming its architecture from eighteenth-century Colonial to twentieth-century classical. In modern history, he remains unparalleled in terms of passion, genius, and drive.
