Through January and early February, Sycamore Springs neighbors Elaine Blakeslee, Barb Yocum and Alice Cochran planned the 2nd Annual Sycamore Springs East Ladies Tea at the Mulberry Commons Common Building.
The first event was held in 2022, when the neighboring Sycamore Commons ladies under the leadership of Elaine Blakeslee, invited the Mulberry Commons women to a neighborhood tea. A delightful time was had by all who attended, so Elaine, Alice and Barb coordinated an event where the Mulberry Commons ladies hosted.
On Saturday, February 11, fourteen women attended the afternoon event. They enjoyed home baked cream puffs and ricotta cheese cookies, homemade mints and finger sandwiches in addition to hot tea and laughter.
“It was such a delight to get together,” Alice Cochran says. The ladies who attended brought their wedding photos and Alice and Liz Bicking displayed their wedding gowns. Antique dolls, plants, fine linens and heirloom China and crystal adorned the tables, creating a festive event.
Elaine, Barb and Alice paid close attention to every detail, from the invitations to the table settings and the program for the afternoon.
Organized and informal events create a unique culture of tight community at Sycamore Springs. “In Mulberry Commons we gather for every birthday,” Alice shares. In addition, some of the neighbors gather informally to watch football games, host game nights and work on puzzles in the common building.
For Alice and her neighbors, spaces where they can gather and celebrate community make all the difference.
