On September 7, 2023, more than 30 residents gathered early in the morning to send the Travel with Purpose team off with prayers and well wishes. The eight Garden Spot Village residents and staff members that make up the Travel with Purpose group arrived safely in Nairobi, Kenya. There, they plan to engross themselves with the Missions of Hope International (MOHI) program, which educates children, empowers families, and promotes both physical and spiritual health.
The Travel with Purpose Trip to Missions of Hope International gives residents and staff members a perfect opportunity to simultaneously travel the world and assist those of God’s children who are in need. The trip is scheduled to last 18 days; the first days have already been filled with life-changing experiences. The Travel with Purpose team posted an update on social media about their exciting schedule on September 9 and 10:
“It has been a rain-quenched and invigorating couple of days here for the Travel With Purpose Team. Our journey with MOHI took off on a brilliant note. We began our day with enlightening orientation sessions that helped us understand MOHI’s vision and mission. We also ventured through the heart of Mathare Valley, which brought us close to our local hosts during home visits. Gaining firsthand insight into their lives was an enriching experience. We also had the chance to tour the Pangani Centre, a beacon of hope in the community. The ground floor’s medical and dental center simply left us in awe of the incredible work being done here for the community’s wellbeing. Our afternoon consisted of shopping at the MOHI store located on the 4th floor of Pangani. Each artifact was a beautiful testimony to the hands that created them.”
On Tuesday, September 11 the group met children who are sponsored by Garden Spot Village residents and team members. They shared letters and gifts from the sponsors and enjoyed playing games and getting to know each other better.
As the trip progresses, the group will visit sponsored kids’ classrooms and homes, conduct field trips with them, and visit the best places in Nairobi.
